INSIDER TIPS

  • You can’t win if you don’t enter.
  • Be aware of your photo’s background and make sure it doesn’t distract from your subject. This includes random
  • body parts that can sneak into an image. Also be sure you don’t cut off any essential parts of your subject out
  • (example: the top of their head).
  • Blurry photos are eliminated early so be sure to focus on this when selecting your images. When blur appears to be
  • unintentional, your photo will receive a lower score. Using a tripod or monopod will help reduce blur.
  • Get your photo in ASAP to avoid the rush of images sent in at the last minute.
  • Make sure you have read and follow the rules.
  • Show only your best photos. Mediocre photos submitted with your best images may sway the judges.
  • Subject should be facing the camera unless it is your intention to tell a story.
  • Tell a story with your photo. The image(s) you select should be interesting and make the viewer take interest, then be able to tell a story or make the view want more.
  • Try to capture reactions to things rather than exclusively a thing itself.
  • Walk the Faire and study the grounds. Get an idea where the best angles are and what might lead to a solid shot.
  • Watch those shadows. Make sure your subjects are well lit.
